The Full Story
About me
I believe every piece of handmade jewellery is just like a thumbprint, it is special and unique.
Designer background
I was born in China and came to the UK when I was a teenager. Having had the opportunity to interact with people from all cultural backgrounds has given me a strong sense of inclusiveness and the ability to accept new things. I have always been interested in making and drawing since I was a child, such as learning Chinese painting and making miniatures out of polymer clay. I studied ceramics, fine art, and art textiles in secondary school and sixth form. Studying those subjects has enabled me to find my favourite field of art. Therefore, I unhesitatingly chose to study jewellery and silversmithing.
About making
I like to use a variety of materials to create my pieces because it is more diverse, enriched and flexible. Material is the body of the jewellery, and jewellery making is not limited to specific materials. Different materials can be used to create works by using various techniques which affect the visual expression of the work, as well as the contextual background of the work.
I realized jewellery can be more than just a decorative piece, it can be more interactive, playful as well as genderless. I want the wearer to feel the playfulness and joy of the jewellery. My inspiration comes from the objects around me, and fun or troubling things that happen in life. Each of my pieces is carefully thought out and created, and there are always stories behind them. I believe every piece of handmade jewellery is just like a thumbprint, it is special and unique.
